TECHNOLOGY FOR THE PRODUCTION OF BIODIESEL

PROCESS FEATURES

CONSER offers a modern process for production of biodiesel from vegetable oil. The products, biodiesel and glycerol, will both meet the most stringent standards. The process offered is the result of the a widespread experience of CONSER, in collaboration with the SISAS group, in technologies of esterification and transesterification.

PROCESS DESCRIPTION

The technology offered by CONSER is based on the following steps:

Transesterification

Vegetable oil is transesterified to crude biodisel (methylester of fatty acid) reacting with methanol in presence of an alkaline catalyst according the reaction:

The effluent of reaction splits in two immiscible phases: a methylester rich phase and a glycerol rich phase.

Biodiesel recovery

The crude biodiesel is refined by removing methanol, by washing out glycerol and water soluble organics and by final drying.

Glycerol recovery

The glycerol rich phase is subjected to a sequence of treatments including the following main steps:

Acidification and fatty acid separation
Recovery and recycle of excess methanol
Concentration
Distillation
Bleaching
